Flevoland maintains preferred route advice for new high-voltage connection
◆1 source
Flevoland, four municipalities and the water authority have maintained their earlier advice on a new high-voltage connection between Diemen, Lelystad and Ens, supplemented with additional studies and information. The preferred route runs via Almere and the Waterlandseweg, along the Hoge Vaart and the Maximacentrale to Lake Ketel. The authorities said the route should take account of its effects on residents, businesses, nature and the landscape. According to the province, the connection is needed because the existing grid will have insufficient capacity after 2030 amid rising electricity demand and transport.
The additional advice calls for special attention to four areas: the combination of nature, recreation and existing infrastructure in Almere; the location of a new substation between Almere and Zeewolde near the A6–A27 connection; developments around Lelystad Airport and Lelystad Airport Businesspark; and nature, water safety, agriculture and recreation around Ketelmeer and Schokland. Schokland’s UNESCO World Heritage status also requires particular consideration. The national government will decide on the route and the locations of the new high-voltage substations, with a decision expected in early 2027.
