First Batavia Night Run raises more than €20,000 for ALS foundation

The first Batavia Night Run, held around Bataviahaven in Lelystad, raised €20,140.74 for Stichting ALS. More than 1,700 participants started on Friday evening across several distances, including a largely illuminated five-kilometre route through Batavia Stad Fashion Outlet and past the Batavia replica ship. Participants praised the atmosphere and lighting, but also pointed to uneven pavement, high curbs, exposed cable channels, darkness near Batavia Stad and an unclear turn near the finish. The organiser, Central Events, said it would evaluate these points after inspecting the route in daylight.

Most finishers received a wooden medal, but the last 15-kilometre runners did not because fewer participants than expected failed to appear: the no-show rate was 10 percent rather than the usual 15 percent. Central Events is satisfied with the event and is considering organising another edition next year.
