Heavy fireworks damaged public spaces in Urk, leaving a roundabout and grass blackened and bushes destroyed, the municipality said. It launched a campaign against setting off fireworks.

A two-year-old duck named Gerrit was found with burns and blast injuries to its neck, beak and chest and was euthanised at a veterinary clinic. Its owner and family suspect fireworks were involved, but do not know who was responsible. The veterinarian reported the case to police.
