One person was killed and two others were injured in a fire near Peru’s historic Inca site of Machu Picchu. The fire was burning near one of the main access routes to the tourist attraction. Authorities said the fire began when farmers burned weeds in their fields to prepare land for cultivation. Drought and warm weather caused the flames to spread beyond the intended area. The person who died was an older adult, according to the authorities.
