A major fire broke out at about 02:45 in a parking garage beneath an apartment building on Theodoor Hoytemastraat in Amsterdam Nieuw-West. Firefighters deployed multiple vehicles and used a firefighting robot. The fire produced heavy smoke, and residents were advised to keep windows and doors closed and switch off mechanical ventilation. The fire was later brought under control and the smoke diminished.

At least 55 homes above the garage were evacuated, and residents are being accommodated at a nearby hotel. Some people were examined by paramedics; one report said there were no known casualties, while another said it remained unclear whether anyone had been injured. Residents cannot yet return while damage is assessed. The cause of the fire is unknown.
