Fire and sinking of cargo ship in the Black Sea

◆3 sources

A Turkish grain freighter travelling from Ukraine to Italy caught fire and later sank in the Black Sea, about 55 kilometres south of the Romanian town of Sfântu Gheorghe and outside Romania’s territorial waters. Two crew members died and 11 others were rescued; injured people were taken away by helicopter, according to Romania’s Interior Ministry. Romanian authorities had not stated what caused the fire. Ukraine, including President Volodymyr Zelensky, said the vessel had been attacked by Russian drones.
