A fire broke out at Alco Energy, a biofuel company on Merwedeweg in Rotterdam-Europoort, on Friday morning, producing high flames and black smoke amid additional flaring. The refinery was shut down, and a later fire started in an animal-feed dryer. The building and adjacent grounds were evacuated as a precaution. No casualties were reported.

Earlier that morning, the company had experienced a major power failure and a small fire.
