FIFA suspensions after Egypt’s World Cup loss to Argentina

FIFA suspended Egypt coach Hossam Hassan for three matches and forward Mostafa Ziko for five after their criticism of referee François Letexier following Egypt’s 3-2 World Cup round-of-16 loss to Argentina. Hassan said the match had been rigged, while Ziko accused the referee of acting unfairly.
A single report said FIFA also suspended staff member Ibrahim Hassan, the coach’s twin brother, for three matches. Egypt had a second-half goal disallowed following a video review, while Argentina’s stoppage-time winner was allowed to stand despite Egyptian complaints about an earlier foul. The suspensions mean Hossam Hassan and Ibrahim Hassan miss Egypt’s upcoming Nations League matches until March 2027; Ziko is eligible to play again in June.
