Femke Liefting sidelined long term with a foot injury

Ajax goalkeeper Femke Liefting is expected to be sidelined for a long period because of a foot injury, according to the Amsterdam club. The 21-year-old has been on loan from Chelsea since last summer and has made 13 appearances for the team coached by Anouk Dekker.

Liefting, who previously played for FC Utrecht, VV Alkmaar and AZ, made the Netherlands squad in October 2024 but has not yet played an international. She was called up for last month's World Cup qualifying playoffs against Hungary but withdrew before the first match after falling ill. She is likely to miss the Netherlands' decisive qualifying matches against Slovenia on December 1 and 5 because of the injury.
