Extended closure of Sporthal De Slagen
◆2 sources
Sporthal De Slagen in Waalwijk is expected to remain closed until the second quarter of 2027 because repairs to its unsafe roof structure are more complex than anticipated. The hall was closed in May after a crack was found in a roof support; subsequent research found the structure unsafe and at risk of collapse in heavy rain.
The municipality said the steel structure must be repaired and reinforced from outside because work from inside the hall is not safe enough. A manufacturer is still preparing drawings and calculations. Sports clubs and schools have moved activities to other venues, including De Overlat and Sporthal Dillenburcht in Drunen, with altered schedules and longer travel for some users.
