Geldrop-Mierlo has expanded its use of SmartTraps to tackle rat nuisance, placing traps at locations with many reports. One report said about 30 traps had been deployed, while another put the total at 12 and said 16 rats had been caught so far. The municipality said the trial was still too early to assess its effect.

Residents can report rat sightings through the BuitenBeter app, with 167 reports recorded according to one report. The municipality also launched a campaign urging residents to remove food sources and dispose of waste properly, while deploying traps at reported hotspots.
