A transgender woman in Almere was reportedly afraid to return home after her 62-year-old neighbor broke into her house on 9 July, damaged it and smeared urine and feces inside. Police arrested the man after he allegedly threatened her with a stone. She stayed first in a hotel and later in temporary accommodation. The incidents followed years of alleged harassment, threats, aggression and discriminatory behavior toward neighbors, according to housing foundation GoedeStede, which has sought to evict him from his rented home.
The man has severe schizophrenia and addiction problems, according to his curator. A care authorization has been issued for compulsory mental-health treatment, but the GGZ reportedly found no place in a 24-hour facility, so treatment at home, including forced medication, was arranged. The judge said independent living appeared unsustainable and was considering eviction, while the curator warned that it could leave him homeless. The ruling was due on 11 November.
