Eva Geller, a 90-year-old Holocaust survivor who was shot during the attack on Bondi Beach in Australia, was reported to have died in a Sydney hospital nearly a year later. She had suffered serious leg injuries and had been hospitalized regularly. A local rabbi said that she never fully recovered, although she had regained the ability to walk after doctors initially told her she would not walk again. Fifteen people were killed and dozens were seriously injured when two shooters opened fire on December 14. Geller had recently celebrated her 90th birthday.
The attack was attributed to Sajid Akram and his son, Naveed. They reportedly threw four homemade explosives into the crowd before opening fire; the explosives did not detonate. Sajid was killed at the scene, while Naveed was charged with terrorism and murder and remains before the court. The case had not yet been heard on its substance. New South Wales Premier Chris Minns and Australian Prime Minister Albanese expressed condolences to Geller's family.
