The European Parliament selected the International Criminal Court in The Hague as the winner of this year's Sakharov Prize, its award for people or organisations committed to human rights or democracy. The prize is due to be presented in December.

The award was described as support for the court amid pressure from US President Donald Trump, who, according to one report, seeks to use sanctions against it.
