Error in Amsterdam’s municipal budget reserve

Amsterdam finance alderman Hendrik Jan Biemond reported another error in the municipal budget, affecting the projected general reserve by between €70 million and €140 million in the coming years. The error arose because the balance of the coalition agreement was incorrectly processed as a shift of expenditure over time.
Biemond said the error changes the timing of the reserve’s development but not its final level in 2030, which remains at the standard level. He said he would monitor final checks and, where necessary, adjust the budget process. He had previously informed the council of errors involving tourist tax, advertising tax and parking revenue.
