The Amsterdam Court of Appeal sentenced Robert L., 48, to 11 years in prison for killing his partner, Susanna Boon, in 2016. Boon, 51, was reported missing after leaving their Amsterdam home following an argument, and her body was found months later in woodland near Nunspeet. Investigators determined that she had been strangled.
L. had previously been acquitted for lack of evidence. The appeal court ruled that the circumstances left no other conclusion than that he had strangled Boon. In 2023, the couple’s youngest daughter said she had seen her father with his hands around her mother’s neck, although experts could not establish the reliability of that statement. The prosecution had sought a 14-year sentence.
