Elderly residents struggle with new organic waste containers in Zeewolde

Older and mobility-impaired residents in Zeewolde have difficulty using newly installed underground organic waste containers, according to the account. The containers are reportedly high, some are located on sidewalks without a ramp, and their openings close immediately instead of staying open. Eighty-four-year-old Blom Traveler said she must lift her rollator to reach the containers and cannot hold it while opening the hatch and depositing a bag. Councilor Ria Houkes said she hoped the municipality would quickly install ramps and consider other containers, possibly ones that open automatically when a pass is used.
