Elbertsen department store remains in Wekerom after 103 years

The Elbertsen department store in the village of Wekerom has remained in business for 103 years, while the village’s baker and butcher have disappeared. The business began as a blacksmith and is now run by 62-year-old Evert-Jan Elbertsen and his 88-year-old mother, Janny.

The store sells swimming pools and toy tractors. Evert-Jan said his children are not interested in taking over the business, but he and his mother continue working there for now.
