East Souburg is reportedly abandoning plans to seek World Heritage status for the Carolingian Burg. The municipal executive is instead drawing a line under such an application and focusing on finally undertaking a major makeover of the castle site.

The reported change has not been met with regret locally, provided that work on the Carolingian Burg now proceeds.
