Amber Gersjes was eliminated in the round of 16 of the World Judo Championships in Baku, Azerbaijan, in the under-48kg category. The 29-year-old lost her second match to Japan’s Wakana Koga by ippon, after Koga had also scored a yuko. Gersjes said the elimination was especially painful after her results earlier in the year. Naomi van Krevel was eliminated in the first round of the under-52kg competition by Czech judoka Tereza Bodnarova, also by ippon. One report said Bodnarova scored a yuko with about 30 seconds remaining before the bout ended.
