Dutch runners Mikky Keetels and Bregje Smits at the Amsterdam Marathon

Mikky Keetels was the fastest Dutch woman at the Amsterdam Marathon, finishing 14th in 2:30:36. Bregje Smits finished about 20 seconds later in 2:30:57. Both improved their personal bests; Smits lowered hers by nearly three minutes from the 2:33:46 she ran at the Frankfurt Marathon the previous year.

Smits, a dentist from Eindhoven, completed the race after withdrawing from the previous Amsterdam Marathon because of abdominal pain. She reported having no stomach or nausea problems this time and said she had enjoyed the race. Keetels, from Schijndel, combines running with work as a flight attendant.
