Dutch researchers map the clitoris's nervous network

Researchers from Amsterdam UMC mapped the entire nervous network of the clitoris in high resolution, according to the account. To do so, they brought a donated female sex organ to a particle accelerator in Grenoble, France, where the scan was initially refused because researchers there did not consider the clitoris an organ under their rules.
The scans showed that the clitoris's nerve network is much more extensive than previously thought. The researchers said the findings could help address gaps in knowledge about the female body and improve medical care, including by helping doctors account for vulnerable nerve pathways during childbirth, after female genital mutilation and in gender-affirming surgery.
