Dronten seeks structural funding to address nuisance from young people

A relatively small group of young people and young adults has been causing nuisance in Dronten, according to residents and entrepreneurs around the town centre. They described shouting, young people riding quickly through the streets on fatbikes and groups gathering near a covered parking-garage entrance. A resident also said that young people returned to a school area after police checks, despite agreements that they should not be there at night.
The municipality refers to the group as the “2 per cent youth” and says it can have a significant effect on people’s sense of safety. Youth intervention specialists have been deployed since 2023 to identify warning signs early and help prevent escalation and involvement in crime. The municipal council is discussing one more round of temporary funding for the coming year, while structural funding is needed from 2028. Dronten is preparing a European tender to enable the specialists’ work to continue.
