Dronten registers construction projects earlier amid grid congestion

The municipality of Dronten is registering housing and education projects earlier with grid operator Liander because the electricity grid is nearing its capacity limits. New or expanded connections are increasingly being placed on a waiting list. The municipality says no project is currently delayed by grid congestion and that capacity has already been arranged for projects known to require a connection.
Early registration does not guarantee that a project will receive a connection. Liander assesses projects based on their construction start date, social importance, electricity consumption and delivery date; ties are decided by a public lottery. Since 1 July, housing projects have no automatic priority. Dronten says it is working with the province, grid operators and businesses on measures including grid expansion, energy hubs and energy storage.
