Drone delivery of food and alcohol reaches a Canadian prison cell

A Canadian prisoner at a high-security prison complex near Sainte-Anne-des-Plaines received McDonald’s chicken nuggets, fries, drinks and alcohol delivered by drone to his cell, according to a prison guards’ union. The drone was reportedly flown to the prisoner’s window by people outside the prison. The union said motion detectors did not activate, while TVA Nouvelles reported that one or more security cameras were not working. The Canadian government has opened an investigation into the incident.

The union described the delivery as part of a growing contraband problem involving drones and questioned what might be delivered next. The prison complex houses some of Canada’s most serious offenders. The account also noted previous drone-related prison incidents in the Netherlands, including attempts to deliver meals, but did not link those cases to the Canadian incident.
