Discussion on homeless families in Amsterdam
◆1 source
A second Live Journalism evening is addressing the situation of families without a home in the Amsterdam-Amstelland region. In 2025, more than 13,000 people, including more than 1,700 children, were reported to be homeless in the region. The number of families approaching the municipality is increasing, while limited shelter capacity and the housing crisis mean that not every family can be offered a place.
Lara Santos of the homeless office Street Alliance, Steven Arnold of the Amsterdam District Court and Amsterdam PvdD council member Judith Krom are discussing where the current system is failing and how homelessness among families might be prevented. Healthcare, housing and education professionals are also discussing measures to prevent families from becoming homeless and what can be done when a family is struggling.
