British astronomers said they had discovered a new type of celestial body: a planet orbiting the burnt-out star HS 0209+0832. The team from the University of Warwick described the discovery in Nature Astronomy and called the object a “phoenix planet”. The white dwarf is about 250 light-years from Earth in the constellation Cetus.
