Discovery of a medieval gold ring at the Binnenhof

Archaeologists found a small gold ring dating from the 14th or 15th century while excavating an old canal at the Achterhof, behind the Ridderzaal, during renovation work at the Binnenhof in The Hague. The ring bears a medieval inscription on its exterior.

The archaeologists said the ring had belonged to a noble or wealthy person. One archaeologist said she had not previously found a comparable ring from this period.
