Deurne delayed information on an illegal horse-riding hall

The municipality of Deurne has delayed providing information requested by Omroep Brabant for an investigation into the handling of an illegally built horse-riding hall. The broadcaster submitted a request under the Open Government Act in September 2025, after the municipality had reportedly known for years about the construction. The hall was later allowed to remain following a city council decision in September 2025.

After the municipality failed to decide on the request within the required period, Omroep Brabant went to court. The East Brabant District Court ruled on 26 May that Deurne had to decide within four weeks. The municipality divided the request into three parts and completed its final decision on 21 July, paying €2,800 in penalties for the delay. Nearly three months later, the requested documents had still not been provided. The broadcaster said the municipality had not searched WhatsApp messages or used the relevant search term and is taking further legal action to obtain the information.
