Detention of A1 drug robbery suspect upheld

According to a single report, 37-year-old A.E. remained in pretrial detention over his alleged involvement in a violent drug robbery on the A1 near the Muiden/Weesp exit on 18 December 2025. Prosecutors said his DNA was found in a black Volkswagen Golf containing drugs that was left in Naarden after the robbery, and that camera footage identified him as one of two men who parked the car. A.E. denied involvement; his lawyer said the car also contained DNA from six other people and that the footage did not identify him with certainty.

The court rejected requests to end or suspend his detention, citing sufficient indications of involvement and a risk of reoffending. The report said a pro-forma hearing is scheduled for 8 January and the substantive hearing for 10 March. It also said the truck driver is being prosecuted for drug possession and that another, 34-year-old suspect is being held in the United Arab Emirates.
