Demi Vollering won the women’s European road title in Slovenia, a week after winning the world title. She attacked on the final climb of Možjanca and rode solo for about 15 kilometres to the finish in Šenčur, completing the 130-kilometre race from Ljubljana to Šenčur. Puck Pieterse took silver after winning the sprint from the chasing group. Marlen Reusser of Switzerland was third, ahead of Italy’s Elisa Longo Borghini. Vollering won the European road title for the second consecutive year.

Demi Vollering said her “golden year” was almost over after her result at the European Championships. She said she would ride only the time trial on Wednesday before the season ended, but was looking forward to competing in the rainbow jersey throughout the following year and hoped for another good season. Vollering won the Tour de France, Giro d’Italia and World Cup this year.
