Demeter flags installed along the A27 near Oosterwold

Orange Demeter flags were installed along the A27 between Almere and Zeewolde, near Oosterwold, by Tineke van den Berg of Stadsboerderij Almere. She said the flags were intended both to express opposition to farmers’ protests and to show that farmers could work without worrying about the future. The farm uses organic-dynamic methods, including using its cows’ manure on its own land and no fertilisers or pesticides.

The flags also marked the farm’s 30th anniversary. Van den Berg and Tom Saat started a farm in Almere 30 years ago and later acquired a second site, Elderfields, in Oosterwold. Demeter is the hallmark used for farms that work biodynamically.
