Zeeland presented a final design for reconstruction of an 8-kilometre section of the Deltaweg (N256) between North Beveland and Goes, including the Zandkreek lock. The project is intended to improve road safety and traffic flow.

The plan includes raising part of the road on North Beveland by 1.5 metres so emergency services can continue to use it during a possible flood, as well as additional bicycle tunnels near Goes and a wildlife crossing. The province expects the work to cost about €250 million, with additional requirements and price increases contributing to the higher budget.
