The District Court in The Hague delayed the trial of former Surinamese soldier Abdoel L., 60, by at least another year. Prosecutors suspect him of killing several civilians during Suriname’s Internal War between 1986 and 1992.

The investigation has been under way for years and has so far produced little evidence. The case is mainly based on L.’s own statements, which indicate that he killed people, including children.
