The Dutch Schoenmakers Association said that few people were starting training to become shoe repairers. In Aalten in the Achterhoek, 61-year-old shoemaker Eddie Weikamp was unable to find a successor. The association described the situation as urgent, while Weikamp said that young people increasingly wanted to attend higher professional education with their own laptops.
