The number of first asylum applications in the Netherlands fell by 13% in the third quarter of 2026 compared with the same period a year earlier. Nearly 5,900 people submitted a first asylum application, according to figures from Statistics Netherlands based on Immigration and Naturalisation Service data.

The reports also said that repeat applications declined. Statistics Netherlands and the Immigration and Naturalisation Service see no proven link between the decrease and stricter rules.
