Decline in Dutch reptile populations

Five of the seven reptile species found in the Netherlands have declined over the past 12 years, according to new figures. Over the past 30 years, snake numbers have also fallen considerably, with the smooth snake population declining by more than 60 percent.

Some reptile species have fared better, particularly the sand lizard, which has benefited from a warming climate.
