Debate over blocked Russian assets held by Euroclear

Euroclear chief executive Valérie Urbain said the securities depository in Brussels holds most of the blocked Russian assets, putting it unintentionally at the center of geopolitical tensions. Some European Union member states want to use the money for Ukraine, while the United States is also involved and wants to manage part of the assets itself. Urbain described the Russian assets as Europe’s biggest asset and warned that Europe and Euroclear risked being affected if they were confiscated or relocated.
