American DJ and producer Juan Atkins died aged 64, his management said. His body was found on Saturday in a hotel room in Mexico City, where he had been due to perform, and he later died in hospital. The cause of death has not been disclosed.

Atkins was a member of the Belleville Three with Derrick May and Kevin Saunderson, who developed music that became known as Detroit techno in the early 1980s. Saunderson confirmed Atkins's death and described him as a visionary who had opened many doors.
