◆4 sources

Irene Butter, a German-American Holocaust survivor and peace activist, died in the United States aged 95. She had experienced the persecution of Jews in the Netherlands, where her family had moved from Berlin after the Nazis came to power. Butter lived in the same neighbourhood as Anne Frank and later saw her at the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp. She testified about her experiences for many years, urged young people to speak out against injustice, and wrote a book about her experiences.
