De Binding foundation sets four-week deadline for ownership solution

The board of Stichting MFG2, which owns village house De Binding in Biddinghuizen, has given the municipality of Dronten four weeks to arrange a meeting and propose a structural solution for the building’s ownership. If that does not happen, the board says it will step down from responsibility for the centre. The foundation says volunteers can no longer carry the financial, operational and administrative risks, although the building’s day-to-day operation is currently guaranteed.
De Binding was completed in 2021 and houses activities including school gym classes, welfare services and youth work. The municipality has guaranteed losses and taken on mortgage costs, while De Meerpaal has temporarily managed the building. The foundation says discussions about a municipal takeover have not produced progress and that potential alternatives involving housing corporation OFW and De Meerpaal were unsuccessful. Several Dronten council parties have asked the municipal executive for clarity; the municipality says it will not respond substantively until the executive has briefed the council.
