Backlash over the Danish television programme Alle elsker Rasmus

Danish actor and comedian Rasmus Wallbridge was led for months to believe he was making a film, while about 150 friends, actors and other participants secretly took part in a television programme, Alle elsker Rasmus. In the final episode, he was told in a cinema that the film project had been staged. The six episodes were subsequently taken offline, and the makers apologised to Wallbridge amid criticism in Denmark. Sound experts found that Wallbridge’s reaction to the revelation had been manipulated, with a smile from earlier footage inserted into the scene. A programme initiator expressed regret, while political figures and media commentators condemned the production. Wallbridge called on the broadcaster not to make similar programmes again. He later performed a stand-up show in Hanstholm, where he received a standing ovation, but did not address the controversy on stage.
