Daan Schoenmakers breaks his silence about the spread of nude photos

Daan Schoenmakers, 26, from Bergeijk said that nude photos he shared privately with his girlfriend when he was 14 were distributed online and soon became visible to pupils throughout his school. He said the incident caused intense shame and anxiety, and that he kept silent about it for ten years. His friends supported him, but he later developed a fear of vomiting and found it increasingly difficult to leave home. At 22, he sought help from a psychologist, who linked his anxiety disorder to what had happened to him as a child.

Schoenmakers has now written a book about his experiences, titled *Exposed to Fear – Life with an Anxiety Disorder*. He recently showed it to his parents, who had not known what he had carried with him for years. He said he wrote the book to break the silence and let young people know they are not alone and do not have to cope by themselves. The book is sold by Bookscout Publishing.
