Czech government proposes changing public broadcaster funding

The Czech government proposed abolishing fees for public broadcasting and funding public broadcasters from the state budget while reducing their funding by about 15%. The proposal caused unrest among journalists, who feared it could threaten the broadcasters’ independence. Media expert Marína Urbániková said no explanation for the change had been given.
