Audi announced plans to invest $4 billion in its first US factory, in Georgia, subject to approval by Volkswagen’s supervisory board. The plant is scheduled to begin construction in 2027 and production in the early 2030s, with annual capacity of 200,000 SUVs designed for North American customers. Audi chief executive Gernot Döllner appeared with President Donald Trump at a Republican campaign event in Perry City and thanked him for his support. Döllner said the investment would strengthen Audi’s global position, while Volkswagen chief executive Oliver Blume said North American success benefits the whole group. Germany’s IG Metall union criticised Döllner’s appearance and the planned investment amid Volkswagen’s restructuring in Germany.
