Council of State blocks Hajé drive-through and charging stations near Lelystad

The Council of State ruled that road restaurant Hajé A6 Lelystad may not build drive-through booths or about 20 additional charging stations along the A6 near Lelystad. The dispute was between Hajé and Rijkswaterstaat, with the Minister of Infrastructure and Water Management responsible for the decision on the required permit.

The court agreed that the additional access roads would make the traffic layout less clear for motorists leaving the highway, who must be able to distinguish the routes to the fuel station, charging facilities and restaurant parking. The roads would cross a green strip and a hedge, and the court said reversing movements near the charging stations could create unsafe situations. Hajé director Pointer de Jager said in July that the parties should seek a joint solution and that the company had plans it wanted to discuss with Fastned and Rijkswaterstaat.
