Construction of the new Ayasofya Mosque on the Westervoortsedijk in Arnhem officially began after plans for an Islamic prayer house and meeting centre had existed since 2000. The first concrete was laid during a ceremonial event on Sunday, attended by Mayor Ahmed Marcouch.
The mosque is described as Arnhem’s first with a “Dutch” minaret.
