Bina Ayar said that artificial intelligence has dangerous aspects but questioned whether it was appropriate to cause panic about them. She compared the debate with earlier concerns about addictive social media and said that chatbots such as ChatGPT were being described as potentially life-threatening.

She also said that the European Union was addressing chat content under the Digital Services Act and that about eight U.S. states had begun a lawsuit alleging harm to children.
