Compensation scheme for KNIL widows and widowers
◆3 sources
The cabinet agreed to a €50 million compensation scheme for widows and widowers of former KNIL soldiers and civil servants in the former Dutch East Indies who did not receive all or part of their pay during the Japanese occupation in the Second World War. The scheme supplements the 2015 Backpay arrangement and does not extend to heirs.
The Social Insurance Bank will administer the scheme. Information on its conditions will be available from 1 December, and applications can be submitted from 1 February 2027. Each application will be assessed individually because no complete central archive establishes eligibility.
