The Bijlmer air disaster was commemorated in Amsterdam-Zuidoost, 34 years after an El Al Boeing 747 crashed into the Groeneveen and Klein-Kruitberg apartment blocks. The disaster killed 43 people. The memorial began at the PaperDome in Kraaiennest and included flowers, music and a minute of silence. Lony Wesseling, who has sought clarity about the disaster for more than 30 years, spoke, as did alderman Zita Pels and district chair Roos Dors.
